Whilst the training is a power point based presentation the enthusiasm and unique style of the presenter add a different dimension to the presentation. The audience is encouraged to participate as well by asking questions or giving their own examples of incidents they have been involved in or are aware of.
The training lasts between 2 ½ to 3 hours subject to the participation of the audience.
The package was designed by Dave who served with South Yorkshire Police for 8 ½ years. During this time he served on a Police Support Unit (PSU), often referred to as 'riot police', for 6 years as a serial officer, serial sergeant and latterly as a PSU Commander. This involved policing major football matches throughout South Yorkshire. He also served outside South Yorkshire as part of mutual aid PSU's at Bradford, Hull, Menwith Hill and Fairford. For 5 years he was an Officer Safety Trainer for South Yorkshire Police delivering training in tactical communication, unarmed defensive tactics, baton, CS and handcuff training. During this time he devised a training package for Police Support Staff and devised an Officer Safety Training Guidance Manual. Prior to leaving South Yorkshire Police on promotion he served as a member of the District Patrol Unit in Rotherham where one of the many roles undertaken by the Unit included Public Order patrols in Rotherham Town Centre.
